It blocks the sunlight and prevents sweat from running down your forehead. Sweat and rainwater run down my forehead and into my eyes, blurring my vision. If it is the middle of a summer day, the crown of my head and my ears turn bright red from the sun. The U.S. National Eye Institute recommends wide-brimmed, dark-colored hats. Baseball caps do not protect the balls.- 모자가 하는 첫 번째 일은 눈에 그늘을 만들어 주는 것입니다.
- In winter, we often hear the saying that "40% of body heat is lost through the head." This is a baseless claim. A verification published in the BMJ in 2008 concluded that the amount of heat lost through the head is generally proportional to the body surface area occupied by the head (around 10%). However, less heat is lost because the exposed skin is covered.

Whether it blocks UV rays is more important than how dark the lens color is. If you are exposed to strong ultraviolet rays in places where light reflects strongly, such as snowfields or watersides, you will develop ultraviolet keratitis called "snow blindness." If UVA blocking falls short of 86%, it may actually be worse than not using it at all.- 미국안과학회(AAO)는 「100% 자외선 차단」이나 「UV400」이라고 적힌 렌즈를 권합니다.
- Just because the lens color is dark does not mean it blocks ultraviolet rays. In fact, wearing dark lenses makes the pupils appear larger. A 2024 study pointed out that sunglasses with less than 86% UVA blockage may be worse than not wearing them at all.

When you want to listen to music while running — earphones that don't block your ears Nothing happens. Running is not a problem even with empty ears. In fact, there are more times when it is better not to have them. Just because it is bone conduction does not mean you can listen at high volumes. The WHO standard is 80 dB for 40 hours per week.- 골전도·오픈이어 이어폰은 귀를 막지 않는 것이 만든 목적입니다.
- Whether transmitted through bone or air, sound eventually reaches the cochlea. However, just because it is bone conduction does not mean it is safe to listen at high volumes. The safe listening standards jointly issued by the WHO and ITU recommend that adults do not exceed 80 dB per week, equivalent to 40 hours.

When sweat-soaked clothes cling to your body — clothes that let sweat escape What if you run shirtless? For a short run around the neighborhood on a cool day, running shirtless is no big deal. However, you cannot take your shirt off at all in official competitions. Cotton absorbs sweat, becomes heavy, and clings to the body. Polyester lets sweat escape.- Polyester-based fibers retain very little moisture. Therefore, sweat comes out to the outside of the garment and dries. Cotton is the opposite; it absorbs sweat, becomes heavy while wet, and sticks to the skin.
- If wet clothes repeatedly brush against your chest, it causes chafing. The Cleveland Clinic in the United States reports that approximately 36% of runners who run more than 65 km per week experience nipple chafing. If clothing is loose and slips with every step, the distance of contact increases accordingly.
- However, the conditions must be examined to determine whether the fabric actually lowers body temperature. In an experiment where participants exercised for 45 minutes in the heat, the internal body temperature (rectal temperature) of the side wearing the synthetic fiber shirt was lower during the last 15 minutes. It is too early to draw conclusions as there is only one study with a small number of participants.

When you wonder what your current pace is — a GPS watch on your wrist How do you know your pace if you run without a watch? The body tells you up to the point where it is "tiring." However, it does not tell you what the pace is in minutes. 거리 오차는 트인 트랙에서 0.9~4.1%, 숲과 도심에서는 3.5~8.9%였습니다.- Running watches calculate distance and pace by stitching together coordinates captured by satellite signals. Therefore, the more the sky is obscured, the more the numbers deviate. In a test comparing eight different watches, the distance error ranged from 0.9% to 4.1% on open running tracks and from 3.5% to 8.9% in forests and urban areas.
- The method of measuring heart rate on the wrist involves shining light onto the skin to read changes in blood flow. In a test in which 16 participants compared two devices from one company, the average absolute error of the wristwatch was 6.41 bpm. The device from the same company designed to be worn on the upper arm was 1.43 bpm.
- Even with the same wrist device, it varied depending on what was being done. The margin of error during jogging was 3.55%, but it exceeded 10% when the heart rate was low, such as when lying down or walking.

When it is a hassle to run carrying water and a cell phone — a body-fastening belt and vest What if you run without a bag or a belt? Nothing happens if you run for a short while. The problem arises when you run "alone, for a long time, on a road without water stations." There is an experiment showing that the lifting force is the same whether held in the hand or strapped to the waist.- Attaching your gear to your torso frees up your hands. The World Association of Athletics explains in its trail event guidelines that organizers may hang essential equipment, including clothing, a windbreaker, a headlamp, water, and food. The belt and vest are where this gear is carried.
- However, the evidence that "where you strap it" makes it less strenuous is still weak. In an experiment where 12 male and female runners ran for 60 minutes each carrying 1 kg in their hands, on their waists, and on their backs, there was no difference among the three methods in terms of oxygen consumption, energy expenditure, heart rate, or level of exertion.
- The spot where a belt touches is where the same force is repeatedly applied to flesh softened by sweat. That is how abrasions begin.

When the inner thighs are chafed and sore — bottoms that cover that area First of all, the law prevents it. So, the question is actually, "What happens if you run wearing just any pants?" The answer is, "The inner thighs get chafed." The length is not a matter of preference, but is determined by the area where the skin touches.- The inner thighs are where flesh rubs against flesh every time you run. Covering the area with a cloth reduces the contact surface. Abrasions occur when the same force is repeatedly applied to flesh that has softened from sweat.
- Compression tights reduce soft tissue vibration while running. However, systematic reviews and meta-analyses published in 2025 found no evidence that running while wearing compression clothing improves performance or increases the time to collapse from exhaustion. The level of evidence was rated as low to very low.
- Length is determined by chafing, not personal preference. It depends on whether it covers the area where the skin touches and whether the inner seam happens to pass right through that spot.

It absorbs the friction between your feet and shoes, reducing blisters. The fabric inside the shoe rubs directly against bare skin. Since the feet sweat a lot, they get wet quickly. Wet skin chafes much more easily than dry skin. There is an experiment showing that blisters formed more frequently and were larger on cotton socks.- Blisters do not form simply from rubbing. They develop when the same force is repeatedly applied to skin that has softened from sweat. Cotton absorbs sweat, creating these conditions. Statistics show that 20 to 60 percent of marathon and ultramarathon participants experience blisters. They typically form on the front of the sole and the heel.
- There is a double-blind experiment involving 35 long-distance runners. Neither the participants nor the researchers knew which sock was being used, and they compared socks with the same weave but different fibers. Blisters occurred more frequently and were larger on the cotton socks.
- However, in a subsequent experiment conducted by the same research team, the difference between cotton and acrylic disappeared when the weave was changed to a common cushion weave. This means that not only the fibers but also the "weave" plays a role.

It absorbs the impact when your foot touches the ground and returns some of that force. What happens if you run barefoot without running shoes? You can run barefoot. The question is not "whether you can run," but "where and how much." There should be enough space in front of the longest toe to be the width of a big toe.- 밑창 가운데 층(중창)이 착지 충격을 받아 주고 그 힘을 조금 되돌려 줍니다.
- The figure of "4%" is commonly used when discussing carbon plate shoes. This value was derived from the average of 18 participants in a prototype study conducted in 2018. Even within that same study, the results varied from 1.6% to 6.3% depending on the individual. Subsequent meta-analysis combining multiple studies showed the figure dropping to 2% to 3%.
- Sometimes, toenails turn black and bruised after a long run. This is a subungual hematoma, where blood accumulates under the toenail. It occurs when the toes repeatedly hit the front of the shoe. If the midfoot (midfoot) is loose, the foot slides forward on downhill slopes.

Too little causes trouble, and too much causes trouble. What happens if you run without drinking a single sip of water?

If it goes over two hours, the fuel runs out first. What happens if you run without energy gel or sports drink?

The effect is not significant. However, it is not non-existent either. What happens if you run without protection and recovery equipment?
At night, you must first let others know, "I am here." What happens if you drive at night without safety equipment?
Trail
In the mountains, you carry even the burden of returning. What happens if you run in the mountains without trail-specific equipment?
