When you run, your body releases heat through sweat. A running top is clothing that allows that sweat to dry while protecting the skin from friction, sunlight, and wind. It essentially acts as an outer shell that helps regulate body temperature.
What happens if you run shirtless?
This value comes from a 2004 study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine that investigated skin damage on the day of a marathon. The English Wikipedia cites this figure.
UPF 7흰 면티 차단력This is based on the U.S. Skin Cancer Foundation standards. The UPF drops to 3 when wet with sweat or rain. The darker and tighter the fabric, the higher the price.
This is a 2023 experiment in which 20 athletes ran for 60 minutes each at 70% of their maximum oxygen uptake intensity while wearing four types of clothing—cotton, functional, compression, and aluminum—at 35°C and 30% humidity. Neither speed nor core body temperature differed, with p > 0.05.
This is the value obtained by plugging a temperature of 0°C and a wind speed of 10 km/h (driving wind of 6 minutes/km) into the Korea Meteorological Administration's winter wind chill formula. If a headwind is added, it drops below -5°C.
If support is insufficient, stride length decreases by 4 cm. This value was revealed by the Breast Health Research Group at the University of Portsmouth, and in terms of marathon distance, it is equivalent to running an extra mile. When the same research group surveyed 1,659 women, 51.5% reported experiencing chest pain.
It is the most widely used. This single set covers most needs from temperatures above 10 degrees Celsius until midsummer. If you are just starting to run, you can begin here. However, if the distance exceeds 10 km, you should check for chafing on the nipples and underarms.
I wear it around 5 to 12 degrees above freezing, and unexpectedly, in the scorching midsummer sun. I use it not only for the cold but also as a "sunshade." Since it completely covers the back and arms, it reduces concerns about UV rays and also prevents minor chafing.
민소매It is suitable for the sweltering summer heat and record-breaking challenges. The open armpits allow heat to escape easily and do not hinder arm movements. However, since the shoulders and arms are completely exposed, you must accept the risk of UV rays and chafing from the shoulder straps. It is the standard attire for track and marathon runners.
It is needed on windy days, rainy days, and for the 20 minutes waiting at the starting line of a competition. Since the clothes are chosen with the understanding that they will be removed once the body warms up, it is better to choose something thin that folds well and can be tied around the waist rather than something thick.
In winter when temperatures drop below freezing, wear it as the innermost layer. Its purpose is to pry sweat away from the skin and transfer it to the outer layer. It is best not to use cotton for this purpose. If it remains wet and clings to the skin, it actually cools the body down.
For female runners, this is effectively the first top. It comes before outerwear. Without support, the breasts bounce excessively, leading to pain. If you haven't measured your size, it is better to do that first rather than changing your outerwear.

When sweat-soaked clothes cling to your body — clothes that let sweat escape
Polyester-based fibers retain very little moisture. Therefore, sweat comes out to the outside of the garment and dries. Cotton is the opposite; it absorbs sweat, becomes heavy while wet, and sticks to the skin.
If wet clothes repeatedly brush against your chest, it causes chafing. The Cleveland Clinic in the United States reports that approximately 36% of runners who run more than 65 km per week experience nipple chafing. If clothing is loose and slips with every step, the distance of contact increases accordingly.
However, the conditions must be examined to determine whether the fabric actually lowers body temperature. In an experiment where participants exercised for 45 minutes in the heat, the internal body temperature (rectal temperature) of the side wearing the synthetic fiber shirt was lower during the last 15 minutes. It is too early to draw conclusions as there is only one study with a small number of participants.
