수낭

A large hydration pack to put inside a bag. On the trail.

When you run, water and salt are lost through sweat. This term collectively refers to equipment used to replenish these, such as carrying drinks on your person or receiving them along the way.

What happens if you run without drinking a single sip of water?

This is a standard based on the 2007 guidelines of the American College of Sports Medicine and the manual from the Japanese Ministry of the Environment. It recommends checking by weighing yourself before and after exercise.
These are the finish line blood test results of 488 finishers in the 2002 Boston Marathon. Of them, 0.6% were below the dangerous level of 120 mmol/L.
These are the technical rules of the World Athletics Federation. For road races, water must be placed approximately every 5 km, and for events exceeding 10 km, things other than water may be placed.
This is the Japanese Ministry of the Environment’s heatstroke manual. It is considered appropriate to have 1 to 2 grams of salt per liter of water, or 40 to 80 mg of sodium per 100 ml of beverages.
  • 심박 +6 edition 1% 더 빠질 때 This is a 12km trail running experiment in the heat. When runners were made to run at the same pace, for every 1% increase in body weight, the heart rate increased by 6 beats per minute and body temperature increased by 0.22 degrees.

It shrinks as you drink, so the water does not slosh around. It commonly comes in sizes around 500ml and is clipped into the front pocket of a vest. It is suitable for trail and long-distance runners who prefer not to hold anything in their hands.
It is secured with a palm strap and carried in one hand. It is suitable for people who find a vest too cumbersome but are walking around the city for about 30 minutes to an hour. The downside is that it makes only one arm heavy.
Sling a few small water bottles around your waist. It is suitable for people who do not want to carry anything on their shoulders, or those who run about 10km on a summer morning. You must endure the swaying while running.
  • 수낭(리저버)I drink from a 1-3 liter pouch inside my backpack using a straw. This allows me to drink small amounts frequently without stopping. Since the remaining amount is not visible and cleaning is a hassle, I use it for hiking or ultra-trails.
There are salt tablets, powder, and beverages. They are necessary for people who sweat heavily for more than two hours and for whom water alone is insufficient. On short, cool days, there is no reason to specifically pack them.
It is a method that requires carrying nothing. In road races, water is placed approximately every 5km. For most people running races that finish within 3 to 4 hours, this is sufficient.

I have reviewed and summarized the publicly available research and institution guides. Where research differs, I indicate this and include the supporting evidence.

Moisture (handheld water bottle · soft flask)

It is a water bottle that you carry in your hand while running so you can take a sip immediately when you are thirsty.

  • Carrying large amounts of water is not beneficial in itself. Drinking beyond thirst is cited as a major cause of exercise-associated hyponatremia. The same review stated that for healthy individuals, the risk is small even if water loss reaches around 3% of body weight.
  • There is an experiment in which 12 male and female runners ran for 60 minutes holding 1 kg in their hands. There was no difference in oxygen consumption and energy expenditure compared to when the weight was worn on the waist or back. However, the experiment was conducted on a treadmill, and walking pace was not measured.

  1. A soft flask does not make a sound as it shrinks.
  2. Water alone is not enough on hot days. We also look at electrolytes.

These are the standards compiled by Running Inside. Since everyone's feet and body are different, this is not the definitive answer.
